Berbatov and Manchester United Perfect Match

Bulgarian international Dimitar Berbatov completed his 30 million transfer from Tottenham to Manchester United. I think everybody has won in this situation as Tottenham have got a good profit on the player, the player has made his dream move and United get a world class striker. The player has been unhappy at White Hart Lane for some time and hasn’t been at his best due to the speculation. He’s the sort of player who needs to be mentality right to perform at his best. He can sulk at times if things aren’t going his way also, but at his best he is unplayable.

The move to Manchester United maybe just the motivation to start performing at his best.

“I’ve handled expectation and pressure throughout my life - I’m not scared of that. That’s why I’m here,” he told MUTV

“The most important thing is to enjoy myself, help the team win more trophies and to thank the fans.

“If I do that and show what I can do like I did at Tottenham, I don’t think there’ll be any problems. I hope my peak years are still to come. I’m 27 and now is my time.

“This is perhaps the last step in my career and the biggest club in the world. I feel I can develop in the way I want here and the way I’ve always wanted.

“That’s the most important thing.”

The Bulgarian international has signed a four-year deal at Old Trafford after a long pursuit. Manchester City also had a bid accepted by Tottenham, but the player only had eyes for United. Manchester United also tried to sign Berbatov two years ago before he signed for Tottenham, but Tottenham had already tied up a deal for the player and Sir Alex Ferguson is delighted to have finally signed the player.

We tried to get him when he was at Bayer Leverkusen, but we only had a few days to get the deal done,” Ferguson told MUTV.

“Tottenham had already made a bid. Unfortunately, we hadn’t moved at the right time two years ago.

“Now we’ve managed to get him. It’s cost us a bit more money, but he’s worth it.”

Putting The Foot Back Into Football
By Martin Sejas

There’s a reason why football is called football. There’s also a reason why football is not called mouthball or verbalball. Unfortunately, nowadays we see more talking being done with the mouth rather than with the foot. People may say that this serves to build up the hype and tension of a football game. But for me, it is a complete distraction from what football is truly about.

When was the last time you saw a game that was dominated by what happened on the pitch than what happened off it? Probably a long time ago. The days where both teams would approach the days before the game without going into a slanging match are long gone.

Who is to blame for such a change? Coaches? players? media?

All of them have played a part in the transformation of football into slangball, or mouthball or whatever you want to call it. Despite this, I would personally point to the coaches for being the main instigators of slanging matches. It is the coaches that are the face of a team before going into battle. However, they tend to engage in phony wars of words before the real war on the pitch.

Thank God that these phony wars tend to be forgotten after the game has been played. The fact that they’re quickly forgotten renders them useless. People may say that it adds to the hype, excitement and anticipation leading to a game, but there is no need to hype up a game of football

Knowing that 2 teams are going into a titanic battle over 90 minutes is enough hype for me. Knowing that a team may be risking it all on the line in 1 game is enough hype too. Or even better, knowing that a team is about to play against a bitter rival for the umpteenth time is more than enough to get the blood in the veins moving in football fans everywhere.

Football has sadly become denigrated in recent decades by the antics of managers and coaches in taking the battle on the pitch off the pitch. In some cases, the off field battle is so fierce that people forget that there’s a football game actually taking place.

The biggest mouth in the business (at least in the last couple of years) has been Jose Mourinho, who made enemies with every other manager in the EPL. It is no coincidence that his comments at press conferences are remembered as much or more than what Chelsea did on the pitch under his tenure. This is certainly a very sad thing for football.

The battle does not belong off the pitch, it belongs on the pitch and is fought with the feet and not with the mouth.

Are Hurricane Zones Flooded By Reporters More Than Water In Recent Years
By Rachel Yoshida

There has been so much attention given to the coming of hurricane Gustav. For well over a week there has been little else discussed in weather reports except the fact that Gustav could possibly rival other oat hurricanes like Katrina, Andrew, and Camille. Much preparation was made to be as ready as possible for this next big one. Buses and trains were set up well ahead of time for evacuees that had no way to get out on their own. New Orleans especially wanted to make sure there was no repeat of the chaos that occurred during and after Katrina.

As was expected, Hurricane Gustav did cause a considerable amount of damage, but still nothing even comparable to Katrina. There was some flooding and as the remnants of the system moves northward it will still dump a goodly amount of rain in other areas that were not in the coastal regions. Much of any additional flooding will be caused by the rainfall, but flooding from the surge of ocean water was limited.

The dreaded and much worried about levees around New Orleans held fast for the most part and the biggest damage done by them was from water surging over the tops of the connecting canals. This did cause some localized flooding, but again, nothing like the devastating flooding caused by Katrina. There were some homes severely damaged by the strong winds and flood waters, but the loss of life has been few so far.

Probably one of the biggest floods that took place during Gustav that caused no damage at all was the flood of reporters that descended on the Gulf Coast region to cover the event. While all the other local people were scrambling to get out before Gustav came on shore, scores of reporters were quickly setting up there cameras and satellite equipment filled vehicles to be able to give us a blow by blow, no pun intended, account of all that happened as it occurred.

What makes these gung ho individuals want to place their lives in jeopardy just to deliver a report live when they could so easily end up dead? It is really ridiculous. We all sit on pins and needles just waiting to hear what is going on, but should there not be a less dangerous way to get word than these people risking life and limb just to gain those few precious moments in the lime light? Do they not realize that if it is necessary to be tethered to a pole and dodge huge chunks of flying debris to be able to stand and deliver a report that the smartest thing they can do is be somewhere else?

It is almost laughable at the lengths the media will go to present the fastest coverage and the most dangerous coverage even if they are placing themselves in serious peril. It does not really show how brave they are, but actually just how stupid people will be to get a little recognition.
